We’re excited to share that the CIONIC team is growing! Each new addition to our team brings a unique set of skills, experience, and education, all of which contribute to our company culture and mission to superpower human mobility. Today, we’re excited to introduce our newest team member, Adam!

Tell us about yourself!

I’m Adam. I live in Chicago but spent most of my life in Southern California. I have an Ed.D. in Sport and Performance Psychology, M.S. in Kinesiology, B.A. in Exercise and Sport Science, and an A.A. in Physical Education. For the last ~5 years, I’ve worked as a neurological exercise specialist.

Outside of work, I spend time with my fiancée, Kristin, and dog, Indie. Indie and I go for daily walks, occasional beach visits, and training sessions. Kristin and I enjoy exercising, hiking, and exploring new towns. My two favorite hobbies include submission grappling and snowboarding.

Could you tell us more about your background and professional experience before joining CIONIC?

My B.A. and A.A. focused on physical therapy, sport science, and physical education, while my M.S. in Kinesiology focused on exercise physiology. My Doctor of Education was in Sports and Performance Psychology, which helped me learn more about human motivation and how to develop successful ways to foster exercise adherence.

My first field-related job was as a physical therapy aide for outpatient clinics in Orange County. After that, I began working as a fitness trainer to expand my experience with the full range of human abilities. During this time, I worked with many different populations, including children with learning disabilities and senior citizens, offering group and independent training sessions.

With that experience, I then was hired as a resident fitness trainer for a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, which sparked my desire to learn more about psychology and human motivation.

I spent the next four and a half years completing my doctorate while working as a neurological exercise specialist for a company named Movement Revolution.

I became the Lead Specialist in Chicago and completed 5,000+ hours training people with neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s, spinal cord injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, neurofibromatosis, hydrocephalus, multiple sclerosis, spinal infarction, multiple systems atrophy, and dementia. My favorite exercise intervention was adaptive boxing.

And that brings us to current day, where I am just getting started at CIONIC.

What is your role at CIONIC? What does it entail?

I am CIONIC’s newest Mobility Specialist! I’ll help with onboarding, customer follow-ups, optimizing use of the sleeve, assisting with troubleshooting, and listening to feedback about the product and communicating it to the rest of the team.

What made you interested in working for CIONIC?

I was really interested in bionic clothing and the ways technology can promote human movement rather than hinder it. Many advances in technology create convenience for humans and actually reduce the time we spend moving, but CIONIC is doing the opposite.

It allows people with mobility differences to move more, thus improving their health and overall quality of life. It’s exciting to be a part of a company that’s focused on improving access to the most robust health intervention known to humans: exercise.

What skills or experience do you think are necessary for success in your role?

  • Communication
  • Adaptability
  • Mimicry
  • Dual Tasking
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Empathy
  • Patience

What are you most looking forward to in your new role? What challenges do you think you’ll face?

Remembering the passwords to all the programs (just jokes). There is a lot to learn both with the technology and the product, but I feel like I’m getting the hang of it already. Another challenge will be transitioning from different responsibilities within my role, but I’m really looking forward to evolving with the company and seeing what we can accomplish next.
